Updated: May 24, 2019

As summer presses on I have really been craving a lot of good summer BBQ foods. And chief among them was ribs, so I decided I would try my hand at making a simple & delicious version of vegan BBQ ribs. I really wanted to make sure that it was a recipe that anyone could do in their home kitchen in around an hour.

Here's what you will need!

  • 2 cups of vital wheat gluten

  • 6 oz of tomato paste

  • 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1 tsp liquid smoke

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbs smoked paprika

  • 2 cups water (to mix in with dry ingredients)

  • 1 cup of water (to cover dough in the instantpot)

  • InstantPot

  • Stand Mixer

  1. Add all of the ingredients except for 1 cup of water (Used later) into the stand mixer bowl

  2. Using the dough hook knead for 5 minutes

  3. Flatten mixture out into a ~1 inch thick piece

  4. Place inside of the instantpot

  5. Cover with the remaining cup of water

  6. Set instantpot for 30 minutes using the pressure cook setting

  7. Quick release

  8. Take ribs out of the instantpot and let rest for 10+ minutes

  9. Cover both sides of the ribs with BBQ sauce

  10. Get the grill hot and grill for 8-10 minutes on each side

  11. Slice into riblet sized pieces
