Sweet Heat Pizza (Vegan, WFPB)

Growing up one of the things I used to always look forward to was pizza night. My parents would let up pick whatever toppings we wanted and then as a family we would make the pizzas and pick out a movie to watch while they were baking. Now as great as the memories were that we made over those pizza nights, the damage to our physical health was probably just as great. Which is why I think it is so important that we have great WFPB options available for those who want to start or continue a pizza night tradition while eating a vegan diet. I will say my sweet heat pizza is a recipe that Dr Miller and I enjoy once every week or two, and it seemed to always be made when we have guests.

Here's what you need! (Serves 2+)


Crust:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 3/4 cup warm water

  • 1 tsp yeast

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

Sauce:

  • 6 oz tomato paste

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

Toppings:

  • 1/3 cup pineapple pieces

  • 1/4 cup hot pickled pepper pieces

  • sriracha

Directions:

  1. Add all of the crust ingredients into a mixing bowl

  2. Mix until all of the ingredients have combined

  3. Knead together for ~2 minutes or until the dough "softened"

  4. Allow to proof one of three ways 1. place in the fridge for 8-24 hours 2. cover and set on the countertop for two hours 3. place in the instant pot on the yogurt setting for 30 minutes

  5. While the dough is proofing, place all fo the sauce ingredients into a bowl

  6. Mix together well until a smooth consistency and then set aside

  7. Once the dough has proofed take it out and place onto a floured surface

  8. Roll out into a size and shape of your choosing

  9. Add sauce and toppings to the dough

  10. Preheat the oven to 450 F

  11. Transfer the pizza to a baking sheet or pizza stone

  12. Bake for 5-10 minutes depending on your size of pizza and thickness of crust
